Weekly programs designed for children ages 6-14, building social emotional learning through small group classes with same-aged peers.
Skills To Learn Inc. offers structured weekly programs for children ages 6-14 who need support in developing their social emotional skills. Our small group sessions are carefully organized with same-aged peers to create a comfortable learning environment.
Each program includes a parent education component to help with the generalization of skills outside of the classroom, ensuring lasting impact at home, school, and in the community.
Our program curriculum uses elements from six respected frameworks in social emotional learning.
Social Thinking is an evidence-based methodology developed by Michelle Garcia Winner and Dr. Pamela Crooke that teaches people of all neurotypes how to understand and navigate social situations by developing metacognitive awareness of their own and others' thoughts, feelings, and intentions.
The Zones of Regulation is a research-based framework developed by Leah Kuypers that merges neuroscience with practical self-regulation tools. It provides a common language for identifying emotional states and applying targeted strategies to manage them, supporting both neurotypical and neurodivergent learners across home, school, and community settings.
R.O.P.E.S. is an evidence-based curriculum developed by Patricia Schetter that addresses executive functioning deficits in neurodivergent individuals. Using visual supports and structured tools, it builds critical skills across Recalling, Organization, Prioritization, Evaluation, and Self-Management to help learners navigate everyday social and academic situations.
The Interoception Curriculum is an evidence-based framework developed by Kelly Mahler that teaches individuals to notice internal body signals, connect them to their emotions, and take intentional actions that support their wellbeing. By building interoceptive awareness from the inside out, it creates a meaningful foundation for self-regulation, emotional understanding, and social emotional learning.
Unstuck & On Target is an evidence-based curriculum developed by Lynn Cannon and colleagues that helps neurodivergent children build cognitive flexibility, goal-setting, and problem-solving skills. Using structured visual supports and explicit instruction, it teaches learners to shift thinking, manage frustration, and navigate everyday situations with greater independence.
Developed by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), this framework defines social emotional learning as the process through which young people acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, show empathy, build supportive relationships, and make responsible decisions. It is organized around five core competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
Every program includes a dedicated parent education component, because lasting change happens when the whole family is involved.

Hear from families whose children have grown through our programs.
"Our son has taken part in all of the different levels of Skills to Learn programs. We have always been impressed in the growth he has made each time he has taken part in the innovative program that Denise and Monique facilitate. Both Denise and Monique bring an extensive wealth of experience to the classes. They both are able to quickly understand each of the children in the group and the best way to tailor their approach in presenting the teaching objectives to the specific child."
"For a child with Autism one of the biggest challenges is learning how to engage in socially appropriate behaviour. The Skills to Learn Program has helped our son, who has Autism and ADHD, learn effective methods of communicating with his peers and applying various tools and techniques in many social settings on a daily basis. It has also helped our family understand how to support him at school and in the community."
"Skills to learn has helped us as a family to identify small, medium and large issues in everyday life. It's given my kids language to express what's often scary and unmanageable. Children often don't have the language to explain feelings. Children often see problems as a big deal and find it difficult to problem solve, using this tool/formula it helps children manage stresses and break down problems/barriers so they become more manageable and in return provide a healthier response to their feelings or frustrations. We are so grateful for this tool."
